  • Medicinal uses for digestion and oral health.
  • Cultural use in ceremonies.

Growing Areas

Western, North Western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces.


Climate & Soil Requirements

  • Prefers warm, humid climates with 2,000 mm rainfall.
  • Grown under shade in loamy soils.

Crop Management

  • Grown on trellises or poles for vine support.
  • Requires careful irrigation and mulching.


Harvesting & Post-Harvest

  • Leaves plucked every 2–3 weeks.
  • Graded and bundled for market.
